for San Patricio. According to his obit, he was principal of the Hidalgo
Seminary from 1867 to 1874, and established St. Paul's Academy at Round
Lake, near San Patricio. He conducted the school from 1876 until 1881. |

"Empressario James McGloin, Born about
1799 in Castlegal County, Sligo, Ireland, Died June 19, 1856 at his
home on Round Lake. McGloin and John McMullen secured a grant from the
Mexican government to bring colonists to Texas and founded the colony
of San Patricio de Hibernia and the city of San Patricio in 1830, the
first Irish colony in Texas. Faithful friend and leader. May his soul
rest in eternal peace." His actual burial location in the cemetery is
unknown, but this memorial was placed to commemorate his life, which
is well documented. He also served as postmaster of San Patricio from
Aug 5, 1850-Nov 8, 1854.
