Taft Blackland Museum

The Taft Blackland Museum was formed by a group from the Taft Chamber of Commerce in 1979. The museum is dedicated to preserving the rich history of the city of Taft, and the giant Coleman-Fulton Pasture Company, also known as the Taft Ranch.

The museum is located in a historic building at 301 Green Avenue in Taft, Texas, 78390. The old two-story brick building was built originally by the Coleman-Fulton Pasture Company for its offices. The building housed two banks on the first floor -- one of which was privately owned and located at the north end of the building. The other bank, which was controlled by the company, was located at the south end of the building. A drug store and a barber shop were located on the first floor between the two banks. The entire second floor was devoted to company offices.

The museum maintains a rich set of exhibits which illustrate the vision of the company's founders and operators. Additional exhibits display the life and times of a rural society engaged in agricultural and ranching pursuits. Some exhibits are interactive.

The museum is operated entirely by volunteers. The hours of operation are Thursday and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, and from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The museum is also open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 and Sunday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tour times can be scheduled for large groups, field trips, and private parties.
